The installation contains a surveillance camera monitoring the room. Image and sound are delivered to a VCR which is connected to a video projector simultaneously broadcasting the captured material. From this VCR (set to recording mode) the physical tape runs through the installation room to a second VCR (set to play mode), broadcasting the events time delayed because the tape needs time to travel from one recorder to the other. The distance between the recorders (in this case 21 feet) determines the time delay (in this case 7 minutes). The installation compares the analogue speed of the travelling videotape (approximately 45 inches/min) with the digital speed (approximately 300,000 km/sec) of the image being recorded. The different pictures, taken from the same camera at the same time, are sandwiched into a single projection. The overlapped images and sounds contrast only by means of seven minutes. Thus the visitor sees and hears his recorded behaviour both simultaneously and time delayed in a single projection.
